National Contract Awarded to Industry Partner working with HISES
In 2023, The South East Innovation Hub (HISES), funded through the Chief Scientists Office (CSO), completed Phase 2 of a Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) challenge competition, Kindocoin: Creating digitally connected communities focusing on avoiding delayed discharges from hospital.
We are delighted to announce that one of the five industry partners who participated in the SBRI challenge TeamKinetic, has been awarded a national contract to customise the new Volunteer Management System (VMS) for NHS Scotland Volunteering teams. The SBRI challenge centred around reducing delayed hospital discharges by harnessing the support of volunteers and third sector organisations — a powerful example of how collaboration drives meaningful change.

TeamKinetic worked alongside NHS Lothian and NHS Borders to help shape their VMS throughout the pandemic under challenging circumstances. Following the SBRI, project work continues as NHS Lothian prepares to undertake real-world testing alongside our colleagues from the Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) team, based at the Infectious Disease Unit – Western General Hospital.
This next phase of testing aims to build evidence and evaluate whether the digitalization and integration into third-sector service providers and volunteers/case workers improves patient engagement during their treatment. The patient group trialling this technology include people experiencing severe and multiple deprivation, for example those experiencing homelessness, addiction, mental health, morbidity, or migrant status as well as the elderly and frail population.
We’ll be sharing updates on the outcomes of this real-world testing through our usual channels — stay tuned!
We would also like to congratulate TeamKinetic on this award and their continued success.
