Funded through the Chief Scientist’s Office, Health Innovation South East Scotland (HISES) forms part of national network created to deliver the Scottish Government’s vision to utilise the innovation process to deliver a healthier and wealthier nation for the future.

Formed through a collaboration of three NHS Boards — Borders, Fife and Lothian, with the latter taking on the role of lead host Board, HISES has a pivotal role in delivering innovative solutions to the health and social challenges, both regionally and nationally. Need to contact us?

Care Home SBRI Competition Applicant Briefing Event Available

On 14th December 2020, a new SBRI competition opened inviting companies to assess if currently collected data on residents by care homes, can provide a holistic digital picture of a resident’s health, wellbeing and care needs. The deadline for applications is 5th February 2021.

A briefing event was held on 11th January 2021 which provided an opportunity to find out more about the challenge. You can download the event recording and speaker presentations on our microsite.

Improving Multi-morbidity Acute Care Using Data Analytics SBRI Open Now!

On 4th January 2021, a new SBRI competition opened inviting companies to apply for a share of £160,000 inclusive of VAT to develop a data-driven solution to improve multi-morbidity acute care using data analytics. This SBRI competition is being launched via Innovate UK and the deadline for applications is 3rd March 2021. An online applicant briefing event will take place at 10am on 18th January 2021.  Register via link below.

Improving Hip Fracture Outcomes Using Data SBRI Coming Soon

The Hip Fracture Challenge has been developed in response to an innovation opportunity being identified as part of the NHS Lothian Orthopaedic Quality Improvement Programme at the Royal Infirmary Edinburgh. Organisations can apply for a share of £160,000 inclusive of VAT to develop a solution which will improve quality of care and outcomes for hip fracture patients.

The competition opens on 1st February 2021 with a closing date for applications on 31st March 2021. An online applicant briefing event will take place at 2pm on 17th February 2021. Register via link below.

Exciting Opportunity to Become a HISES SBRI Assessor

The HISES Project Support Team run a number of Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) competitions each year. Are you interested in becoming a new independent assessor to assist with scoring SBRI competitions to ensure we support the best innovations? If so, then we want to hear from you!

We are looking to recruit new Scottish-based assessors who have held senior positions in clinical, academic or industrial areas, and in particular those that have experience in more than one of these areas. Information on how to get involved and what can be expected can be found by using the link below.

Digital Health and Care Scotland Annual Conference

Examine the lessons Scotland can learn from the COVID-19 pandemic, in light of the important role played by technology-enabled care during this period. The conference will also look ahead to the policy priorities for the Scottish Government as it develops its next Digital Health and Care Strategy. This virtual conference takes place over 24-26 February 2021.

A new study to accelerate use of data for vital COVID-19 vaccine research, led by BREATHE Director, Professor Aziz Sheikh, is one of 12 urgent research projects to receive new funding following a rapid call for COVID-19 data re-search initiatives by Health Data Research UK, Office for National Statistics and UK Research and Innovation.

Are you a data-driven entrepreneur looking to make an impact post-Covid? Applications are open for the Post-Covid AI Accelerator in Edinburgh. AI-focused businesses from anywhere in the UK and beyond can now apply to DDI’s 6-month Accelerator, running from February to July 2021. Closing date for applications is 21st January 2021.
