Funded through the Chief Scientist’s Office, Health Innovation South East Scotland (HISES) forms part of national network created to deliver the Scottish Government’s vision to utilise the innovation process to deliver a healthier and wealthier nation for the future. 

Formed through a collaboration of three NHS Boards — Borders, Fife and Lothian, with the latter taking on the role of lead host Board, HISES has a pivotal role in delivering innovative solutions to the health and social challenges, both regionally and nationally. Need to contact us? Get in touch.

Aspiring NRS Fellow and Clinical Research / Innovation Champion calls closing soon

Two new opportunities for staff interested in a clinical research career or becoming a clinical research or innovation champion.

The second round of the NHS Fife Aspiring NRS Fellows Support Scheme and the first round of a new call for Clinical Research/Innovation Champions.

Both calls will fund 1 PA equivalent for 12 months or up to 2 years to enable increased research/innovation engagement and contribute to building research capacity and capability across NHS Fife. For more details contact Professor Frances Quirk (frances.quirk@nhs.scot) or fife.randd@nhs.scot

Both calls close at midday on Friday, 18th March 2022.

Emerging Communications Approaches through COVID

Organised by NHS Education for Scotland Technology Service, this webinar features national and international communications experts highlighting:

  • Approaches to communications during a pandemic
  • Use of digital technology to scale, spread, and consolidate key messaging
  • Principles of large-scale communications to use in everyday working
  • Examples from internal and external communications, and listening to the ecosystem

This event will take place virtually on 31st March, 2pm – 3pm and will be useful for people who work in digital health, service transformation, and innovation in health, care, social & public services, the NHS, education / academia, and third sector or public organisations.

Scotland's Digital Mental Health Innovation Cluster

Scotland’s Digital Mental Health Innovation Cluster (DMHIC), which is facilitated by the DHI and colleagues from the Scottish Government Digital Mental Health Programme Team, has officially launched.

This will be a partnership space for innovative creation of digital ways to support mental health and wellbeing. Learn more on the DHI website and view the presentations from the launch event.

Funded TEC Professional Development Award

NES is funding 56 health and social care candidates to study for the Technology Enabled Care (TEC) Professional Development Award. TEC is one of the key ambitions of Scotland’s National Digital Health and Care strategy.

This award aims to equip Scotland’s workforce with the knowledge and skills required to embed TEC into health and social care practice while supporting positive health and wellbeing outcomes for people.

Completed applications must be received by Monday 4th April 2022 at 5pm.

Scottish council to launch digital learning academy after being awarded Apple status

Scottish Borders Council (SBC) will launch a digital learning academy after being recognised by global tech giant Apple for its “sector-leading” education technology project. SBC has been awarded Apple Professional Learning Provider (APLP) status for its ‘inspire learning’ programme, which sees iPads rolled out to all secondary school pupils and those in P6-7.

The new award will see the local authority launch a centre of excellence called the ‘Inspire Academy’ to provide support to other education technology projects and councils across the country and the rest of the world.

Hosted by the Centre for Sustainable Delivery at The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, this hybrid event aims to bring the clinical and health management community together to share knowledge on the current and future use of colon capsule endoscopy (CCE) in gastrointestinal disease.

Storytelling AI is set to improve wellbeing of people with dementia

A research team at the National Robotarium, hosted by Heriot-Watt University and the University of Edinburgh, are developing an AI-driven companion which tells personalised stories to aid the memory recollection of people living with dementia.

The “groundbreaking” research project will also aim to boost the confidence and mental wellbeing of patients.

Scotland’s AI Strategy was launched in March 2021 with the vision for Scotland to become a leader in the development and use of Trustworthy, Ethical and Inclusive AI.

It is with these three tenets that the Scottish AI Alliance is delighted to present the inaugural Scottish AI Summit and invite you to join on 30th March. In-person tickets are sold out! However, you can still join the waiting list or register for an online ticket.

Scottish Cancer PROMS Forum

Join a range of stakeholders on 25th March 2022 to learn and share current and future work streams, in turn minimising duplication of effort and patient population burden in the testing of Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) digital tools.

The aim of the Forum is to bring together clinicians, digital companies, patients, patient interest groups, charities, and other peers to provide an open collaborative space.
