Funded through the Chief Scientist’s Office, Health Innovation South East Scotland (HISES) forms part of national network created to deliver the Scottish Government’s vision to utilise the innovation process to deliver a healthier and wealthier nation for the future.
Formed through a collaboration of three NHS Boards — Borders, Fife and Lothian, with the latter taking on the role of lead host Board, HISES has a pivotal role in delivering innovative solutions to the health and social challenges, both regionally and nationally.

RECOVERY Update
RECOVERY, a national clinical trial aimed at identifying treatments that may be beneficial for people hospitalised with suspected or confirmed COVID-19, has recruited over 10,030 participants across the UK so far, with Scotland randomising 661 patients across 21 sites the length and breadth of the country. This study has been widely adopted across the South East Region.

LifeArc has provided £2 million to the University of Edinburgh’s STOPCOVID project last month. The funding will enable 150 scientists at the UoE’s Centre for Inflammation Research to be deployed to work on a project that aims to test existing and experimental drugs to find a treatment for COVID-19.

These potential solutions may link to help those with hearing aids, poor hearing and whose who can’t lip read because of a mask to improve communication between staff and patients.
