Funded through the Chief Scientist’s Office, Health Innovation South East Scotland (HISES) forms part of national network created to deliver the Scottish Government’s vision to utilise the innovation process to deliver a healthier and wealthier nation for the future.

Formed through a collaboration of three NHS Boards — Borders, Fife and Lothian, with the latter taking on the role of lead host Board, HISES has a pivotal role in delivering innovative solutions to the health and social challenges, both regionally and nationally. Need to contact us?

Improving Multi-morbidity Acute Care Using Data SBRI Closing Soon!

On 4th January 2021, a new SBRI competition opened inviting companies to apply for a share of £160,000 inclusive of VAT to develop a data-driven solution to improve multi-morbidity acute care using data analytics.

This SBRI competition is being launched via Innovate UK and the deadline for applications is 3rd March 2021. The launch event took place on 18th January 2021 and was well received. You can view the event recording, presentations, and useful links on our microsite: https://book.shsc.scot/morbidity

Improving Hip Fracture Outcomes Using Data SBRI Now Open!

The Hip Fracture Challenge has been developed in response to an innovation opportunity being identified as part of the NHS Lothian Orthopaedic Quality Improvement Programme at the Royal Infirmary Edinburgh. Organisations can apply for a share of £160,000 inclusive of VAT to develop a solution which will improve quality of care and outcomes for hip fracture patients.

The competition opened on 1st February 2021 with a closing date for applications on 31st March 2021. An online applicant briefing event will take place at 2pm on 17th February 2021.

Innovate UK, NHS Scotland & Social Care and Industry Innovation Networking Meeting

The next Innovation Network Open Meeting will take place on 4th March 2021 between 10am –12.30pm. This session will provide;

  • An update from national Industry and Government leaders on recovery and future plans.
  • An overview from Clinical Leads for Innovation on 2021/22 priorities for NHS and Social Care.
  • Investment Support – Creating an Investment Ecosystem for Life Sciences companies innovating with NHS and Social Care.
  • Cancer Moon Shot – Hear from Scotland’s Clinicians, Academics and Industrialists on progress with the Cancer Diagnostics Moon Shot -25 by 25- radical innovation in skin care.

Delivering Medication Assisted Treatment for Addictions via Telehealth

This seminar marks the launch of a consultation process funded by the Drug Deaths Task Force (DDTF), Scottish Governemnt and Corra Foundation on best practice approaches on delivering Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) for Opioid Use Disorder via Telehealth.

This virtual event will take place on 2nd March 2021 from 7 – 9pm.

The seminar sets the scene for stakeholders in Scotland, facilitating further discussion around the development of consensus based good practice guidance on meeting the DDTF MAT standards via telehealth. This is particularly important in the current climate whereby we are trying to protect service-users and practitioners from unnecessary risk of exposure to COVID-19.

DHI Quick Quote Consultancy Opportunity Available

The Digital Health & Care Innovation Centre (DHI) wish to appoint a Consultant to work proactively with key partner organisations (including DHI and Skills Development Scotland) to develop a Business Case which will support a funding application to the Scottish Government for a national awareness-raising campaign for digital health and care sector careers. The application deadline is 12 noon on 19 February 2021.

SHIL is set to unveil a progressive five-year strategy, outlining its ambitions to sit at the heart of a collaborative, entrepreneurial Scotland fostering the best in Scottish innovation and supporting a world-class NHS. This strategic plan will be revealed in the coming months, highlighting the organisation’s directional aspirations up to 2026, including key themes, an expansive vision, and a renewed mission statement.

Digital Health and Care Scotland Annual Conference

Examine the lessons Scotland can learn from the COVID-19 pandemic, in light of the important role played by technology-enabled care during this period. The conference will also look ahead to the policy priorities for the Scottish Government as it develops its next Digital Health and Care Strategy. This virtual conference takes place over 24-26 February 2021.

New Free Online Course: Chronic Respiratory Diseas-es (CRD) in Primary Care Settings

Hosted on FutureLearn with the University of Edinburgh, this new interactive course is based on the experience of primary healthcare workers in low resources settings.

This course is aimed at clinicians interested in chronic respiratory health particularly in low- and middle-income settings. Enrolment is now open for this course which begins in February 2021.
