Funded through the Chief Scientist’s Office, Health Innovation South East Scotland (HISES) forms part of national network created to deliver the Scottish Government’s vision to utilise the innovation process to deliver a healthier and wealthier nation for the future. 

Formed through a collaboration of three NHS Boards — Borders, Fife and Lothian, with the latter taking on the role of lead host Board, HISES has a pivotal role in delivering innovative solutions to the health and social challenges, both regionally and nationally. Need to contact us?

Care Home Data Platform SBRI Foundation Challenge Competition Now Open!

 

On 16th December 2020, a new SBRI competition opened inviting companies to assess if currently collected data on residents by care homes, can provide a holistic digital picture of a resident’s health, wellbeing and care needs. Organisations can apply for a share of £100,000 inclusive of VAT in Phase 1 of this Care Home Data Platform Innovation Foundation Challenge. The contract notice is published via the Public Contracts Scotland Portal. Improving Multi-morbidity Acute Care Using Data Analytics SBRI Coming Soon

In early 2021, HISES are launching 2 new SBRI competitions via Innovate UK. The Multi-morbidity Challenge has been developed in response to the need to improve the care for the increasing numbers of patients with multi-morbidities who are presenting at emergency departments. Organisations can apply for a share of £160,000 inclusive of VAT to develop a data-driven solution to improve multi-morbidity acute care using data analytics. The competition opens on 4th January 2021 with a closing date for applications on 3rd March 2021. An online applicant briefing event will take place at 10am on 18th January 2021.

Improving Hip Fracture Outcomes Using Data SBRI Coming Soon

The Hip Fracture Challenge has been developed in response to an innovation opportunity being identified as part of the NHS Lothian Orthopaedic Quality Improvement Programme at the Royal Infirmary Edinburgh. Organisations can apply for a share of £160,000 inclusive of VAT to develop a solution which will improve quality of care and outcomes for hip fracture patients. The competition opens on 1st February 2021 with a closing date for applications on 31st March 2021. An online applicant briefing event will take place at 2pm on 17th February 2021.

Exciting Opportunity to become a HISES SBRI Assessor

The HISES Project Support Team run a number of Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) competitions each year. In the New Year, we are reaching out to attract new independent assessors to assist with scoring SBRI competitions to ensure we support the best innovations. We are looking to recruit new Scottish-based assessors who have held senior positions in clinical, academic or industrial areas, and in particular those that have experience in more than one of these areas. Information on how to get involved will feature in the next HISES newsletter edition which will be published on 15th January 2021.

Exciting Opportunity to join the HISES Support Team

Are you, or do you know a highly motivated, experienced and enthusiastic administrator? Hosted by NHS Lothian on behalf of Health Innovation South East Scotland, we have an exciting opportunity to join the HISES Team as a Project Support Officer which will involve providing a key administrative role for the Innovation Office and our Innovation Project Portfolio. This full-time post is available on a 12 month fixed-term contract and can be offered as a developmental secondment opportunity. Please note that this post will be working remotely in the first instance in line with national guidance.

On 26th November, UK and Scottish Leaders in Health, Industry, Investment, Social Care, Government and Life Sciences Industrial Innovation in Scotland met virtually with a full agenda themed around Artificial Intelligence (AI).  If you missed the event you can watch it back here. DHI Launch New Website

The Digital Health & Care Innovation Centre (DHI) is a national resource funded by the Scottish Government and the Scottish Funding Council. Their focus is innovation in digital health and care will help the people of Scotland live longer, healthier lives, while providing sustainable/ inclusive growth for our economy. The DHI have recently launched their new website www.dhi-scotland.com and would like you to join their network, share your interests so they can personalise, tailor, and share content that aligns you with the best opportunities in our digital health and care sector.

Better Care Insight Day

The next Better Care Insight Day will take place on 14th January 2021. This workshop is open to any attendees interested in the Better Care approach. Better Care focusses on the development, implementation and evaluation of learning healthcare systems that integrate clinical practice, large scale data and advanced analytics in a cycle of continuous health and care improvement. As an interactive event, the workshop will showcase exemplars of the Better Care approach in action and allow attendees to share experiences, insights and challenges in this area.

On the 3rd December, leading experts and senior Healthcare Leaders from across Scotland and the UK shared insight into how the sector’s response to Covid-19 is accelerating innovation and giving rise to emerging technologies.
