Formed through a collaboration of three NHS Boards — Borders, Fife and Lothian, with the latter taking on the role of lead host Board, HISES has a pivotal role in delivering innovative solutions to the health and social challenges, both regionally and nationally. Need to contact us?

NHS Fife Innovation Job Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen to help provide Innovation leadership across NHS Fife Health Board and Health and Social Care Partnership (H&SCP). Developing and implementing strategic direction and a governance framework to support Innovation   within NHS Fife and H&SCP and across the South East of Scotland region through our participation in the South East Region Health Innovation Hub (HISES). SHIL Sustainability Innovation call briefing event

Scottish Health Innovations Ltd (SHIL) is seeking sustainable, forward-thinking ideas from health and social care professionals that can help support NHS Scotland to adapt, develop and strengthen in response to climate change. The innovation call is open to anyone working across NHS Scotland and offers a package of support including up to £25,000 of initial funding.

Understanding Medical Device Regulation: An Introduction for Innovators webinar

SHIL recently teamed up with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s Medical Devices Unit to host a webinar on 25th November. The webinar would be of particular interest to Scottish-based SMEs, researchers and NHS employees involved in healthcare device innovation.

Save the Date – NHS Scotland Event 2022

We’re delighted to announce that the NHS Scotland Event 2022 will take place on Tuesday 21st  and Wednesday 22nd June. Make sure to put the dates in your diary for Scotland’s key networking and educational event for those who work in and with NHS Scotland.

For the first time ever, the NHS Scotland Event will take place in Aberdeen at the P&J Live.

CSO Launches New Postdoctoral scheme to support Early Career Health Researchers

CSO have launched a new Fellowship scheme to provide 3 years of funding to researchers that have just completed a PhD and are looking to take the next step in developing a research career. The scheme is looking for applications from both clinical and non-clinical researchers who propose a project within CSO’s overall remit of early translational (experimental medicine), clinical and applied health research and social care.

The application deadline is Wednesday 16th March 2022 and successful candidates will be able to take up their fellowships from 1st August 2022.

Digital Health Academy launches to increase digital skills

Over the last 18 months, the need and use of Digital Health Technologies (DHTs) has accelerated as the impact of the pandemic meant we needed to find innovative ways to connect with patients. However, there is a digital skills gap and a real need for the health workforce to gain sound digital capabilities grounded in knowledge and skills, to support and lead on change and innovation.

The Digital Health Academy is designed to help build a digital-ready workforce, supporting all health and care professionals with the appropriate knowledge and confidence to use DHTs effectively and safely in practice.

New Haematology Centre Opens at Western General Hospital

A £13 million investment has transformed services for blood cancer patients across South East Scotland at the newly opened Edinburgh Haematology Centre. Located at the Western General Hospital, the centre has been rebuilt, expanding and improving day ward facilities, and enabling a major service redesign to enhance the range of treatments on offer.

Now patients can benefit from intensive chemotherapies and innovative treatments, such as outpatient bone marrow transplants saving them up to a three week stay in hospital. A new relatives’ suite and buddy beds also help to better support inpatients.

NHS Lothian Digital Mental Health Transformation Programme Manager Opportunity

Join Mental Health Services in NHS Lothian to lead our Programme of Digital Transformation. Working alongside an established clinical lead, you will bring strategy and structure to a growing suite of projects improving pathway efficiency, electronic records, and digital maturity.

You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team, collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders across NHS Lothian and the four local HSCPs to deliver modern mental health services that maximise what digital solutions can offer. This role is for an initial two-year period with funding for a permanent post currently being sought.

Technology Enabled Care (TEC) Test of Change for Service Innovation in Social Care and Social Work Grants

Applicants are being invited to participate in 2021/22 TEC Social Care Tests of Change initiative to build   further digital innovation capacity within social care and social work. Grants of £3k-£18k are available to support 3 x 30-day rapid change cycles during early 2022 and we hope to award 10 Stage 1 tests of change.

All applications must be submitted to the TEC Programme Office (nss.tec@nhs.scot) by 5pm on Thursday 16th December 2021 and awards will be communicated by 10th January 2022.

The Data Lab MSc Programme Funding Call for 2022-23

The Data Lab MSc is a collaborative programme between The Data Lab, Scottish Universities and industry partners, which aims to develop talented data scientists and engineers to support the Scottish economy.

This call is open to Scottish Universities to apply to receive £6000 per student to cover MSc course tuition fees for data science, data engineering and artificial intelligence related courses for the academic year 2022-23.

Call Closing Date: 5pm on Friday 28th January 2022.

NHS Borders Innovation activity

The HeartFlow Delivery Group continues to make progress in relation to testing ‘HeartFlow Fractional Flow Reserve’ AI tool for stable chest pain pathways within 3 sites. This technology has benefitted patients in NHS Western Isles over the course of the pandemic, resulting in reduced invasive investigations and unnecessary travel. HeartFlow is expected to Go-Live in NHS Borders in the coming weeks, with NHS Forth Valley set to follow shortly afterwards. The Scottish Health Technologies Group have now published recommendations for NHS Scotland in relation to this technology, which can be accessed via the link below.
