Children and Young People Remote Asthma Management SBRI Challenge closed

Applications for the Children and Young People Remote Asthma Management SBRI Challenge are now closed! The aim of this competition is to develop disruptive innovative solutions focusing on the pro-active target management and prediction of asthma attacks in young people with asthma. HISES are hosting this challenge on behalf of NHS Scotland and is being led by Dr Kenneth Macleod, Clinical Lead and Respiratory Paediatrician in NHS Lothian. Thank you to all organisations who applied to address this challenge and we look forward to the shortlisting process in early 2024.

Midlothian CRT revealed as winners at the 2023 Scottish Healthcare Awards

We are thrilled to announce that the Midlothian Community Respiratory Team (CRT) won their nominated 2023 Scottish Healthcare Awards at the recent awards evening in Glasgow on 29th November 2023. The application for Asthma / COPD Project of the Year showcased developing an innovative approach to the use of data in Midlothian CRT with a focus on improving the quality of care for COPD patients in Midlothian through service improvements using data. Claire Yerramasu, Midlothian CRT Team Lead said, “Really delighted for the team, and the data and digital teams, it’s a great recognition of all the hard work.”

Health Data Science Online Course – Applications for January 2024 closing soon

Do you want to learn how data science can improve the quality of care or service that you provide? This online course, delivered by the University of Edinburgh will introduce you to the key foundations and data skills necessary for data-driven innovation in health and social care.

On this 11-week course, you will:

  • learn how data be used to improve analysis and reporting.
  • gain practical experience in working with data.
  • understand about the ethical and legal implications of working with healthcare data.

Apply by 20th December 2023 to join the next cohort beginning 8th January 2024. There are a limited number of fully funded places available for eligible candidates.

New cloud-based radiology platform to be rolled out across Scotland’s health boards

A new nationwide cloud-based platform will provide tools to support clinicians reviewing and reporting on five million radiology scans per year across Scotland. NHS National Services Scotland has entered into a 10-year agreement with international medical imaging IT company Sectra to host the enterprise software platform. The fully managed software as a service (SaaS), Sectra One Cloud, will be used by all of Scotland’s 14 territorial NHS boards and by NHS Golden Jubilee, which also hosts the Scottish National Radiology Reporting Service.

NHS organisations will utilise the radiology, breast imaging, and orthopaedics modules available through the enterprise imaging service.

NHS Research Scotland (NRS) and Chief Scientist Office (CSO) Patient and Public Involvement Event

Save the date! NRS and the CSO are hosting an event bringing together Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) partners, professionals, researchers, and policy makers to share, shape and celebrate PPI happening in research across Scotland.Taking place at the V&A Dundee on 12th March 2024, this event will consist of workshops, plenary sessions, and PPI awards. Registration will open in January 2024. Please come along, learn, network, and share your activities and experiences.

Abstracts are currently being accepted for 10-minute talks with a deadline submission date of 8th January 2024.

A new strategic partnership between NHS Education for Scotland and the Digital Health & Care Innovation Centre (DHI)

The agreement will enable the development of the health and social care workforce and future design and delivery of health and social care services through innovation and the use of digital technologies. A collaborative work programme, which will be delivered via an agreed action plan, will focus on the following strategic areas:

  • workforce development, education and training
  • research development and innovation
  • strategic level engagement with other organisations
  • developing and deploying innovative technologies
  • delivery of health and social care in remote and rural areas

This strategic partnership approach will also support delivery of Scottish Government’s policy priorities to achieve a more skilled and knowledgeable workforce and better outcomes for citizens as well as helping drive innovation and boosting economic competitiveness

Making digital inclusion everyone's responsibility: a roadmap for Scotland

For those of us delivering public services, we risk exacerbating existing inequalities by delivering services digitally. The Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO) have developed this post-pandemic roadmap to define where we’re at, where we need to go and the high level actions we need to take towards significantly reducing digital exclusion in Scotland.

The Event will offer an extensive programme featuring some of the most senior figures in health – so make sure to add the date to your diary for Scotland’s key networking and educational event for those who work in and with NHS Scotland. Health Data Research UK (HDRUK) Conference 2024: The Grand Challenges in Health Data

HDRUK’s annual conference will be a free two-day, hybrid event to celebrate progress and bring people together to accelerate the trustworthy use of health data for public benefit. The conference will be hosted in person in Leeds on 5th – 6th March 2024 or join online and access all the sessions as live-streams. The last few years have demonstrated the enormous power of data to advance medical knowledge and deliver radical improvements to people’s lives. But there is much more that can be done through large-scale data, advanced analytics, and innovative developments in data governance.
