Funded through the Chief Scientist’s Office, Health Innovation South East Scotland (HISES) forms part of national network created to deliver the Scottish Government’s vision to utilise the innovation process to deliver a healthier and wealthier nation for the future.
Formed through a collaboration of three NHS Boards — Borders, Fife and Lothian, with the latter taking on the role of lead host Board, HISES has a pivotal role in delivering innovative solutions to the health and social challenges, both regionally and nationally. Need to contact us?

NHS Lothian gets its first eCargo bikes

Staff in the Podiatry department are the first to be part of a new trial in NHS Lothian designed to reduce carbon emissions, save money and support staff wellbeing. The department are the first in Lothian to introduce e-bikes as a way of travelling to see patients. The concept was first suggested by a member of the podiatry team to Gillian Hawthorne, Team Lead Podiatrist, who then worked with Amanda Jones, Head of Occupational Health Physiotherapy, to help make this idea a reality.

Surgical robots for NHS Scotland

An investment of around £20 million in ten surgical robots will result in less invasive procedures and boost hospital capacity across Scotland including NHS Lothian and NHS Fife. The Robotic-Assisted Surgery systems will be used primarily for cancer treatment and urological, colorectal, and gynaecological operations.

NHS Scotland Job Opportunity!

An exciting opportunity exists to secure the role of Head of Innovation for the Centre for Sustainable Delivery (CfSD). The CfSD is expanding its capability through the development of a new innovation function. As a brand-new function there is an opportunity to work with stakeholders across NHS Scotland to mobilise the new Accelerated National Innovation Adoption Pathway. This focuses on the delivery of innovations aligned with identified NHS priorities, and there will be a portfolio of innovations at different stages of the pathway. Closing date is 17th August.

The Scottish Capsule Programme (SCOTCAP) enables the rollout of Colon Capsule Endoscopy (CCE), a small device the size of a pill which contains a digital camera, as a less invasive alternative to a Colonoscopy.
