Director, Children’s Clinical Research Facility
The University of Edinburgh and NHS Lothian Health Board are looking to appoint a replacement for Professor Cunningham as a new Associate Director of Edinburgh Clinical Research Facility and Director of the Children’s CRF. The post holder will provide strategic leadership of Edinburgh Children’s Clinical Research Facility and within this provide insight and oversight to Edinburgh CRF activities.
Essential requirements for this role are:
- A national and international profile of excellence in paediatric clinical research
- A proven track record of academic publications and grant income
- Extensive experience in leading a portfolio of paediatric clinical research studies
- Knowledge and interest in promoting and conducting early phase clinical trials
- Management and leadership experience in clinical research

Commitment: 0.25 PA (1 hour per week)

Edinburgh Clinical Research Facility
Edinburgh Clinical Research Facility provides a broad range of clinical research facilities and an optimal environment for the conduct of clinical research. It employs over 100 members of staff and is operational over three sites: Royal Infirmary, Western General Hospital, and Royal Hospital for Children and Young People. The facility has several Core areas including genetics, mass spectrometry, statistics and epidemiology, image analysis and education as well as the Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre. It was the first academic unit to obtain full first-in-human Phase I accreditation from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency.
The Facility currently has three directors: Professor Neeraj (Bean) Dhaun, Professor Peter Hayes, and Professor Steve Cunningham (paediatric lead). The directors provide strategic, operational, and clinical oversight of Edinburgh Clinical Research Facility in conjunction with Dr Corrienne McCulloch, Deputy Director.
