Recruitment for Cohort 5 of the NHS Fellowship in Clinical AI has launched

NHS Education for Scotland is proud to support delivery of the NHS Fellowship in Clinical Artificial Intelligence, a national programme helping clinicians build real-world experience in using AI safely and effectively across healthcare.

Run by Guy’s and St Thomas’​ NHS Foundation Trust, the fellowship is a 12-month, part-time opportunity (two days per week from August 2026 to August 2027) where Fellow’s work on live NHS AI projects with expert supervision and multidisciplinary support. Teaching includes masterclasses held in NHS AI centres of excellence across the UK.

Fellows gain practical skills in deploying and evaluating AI in clinical workflows and become part of an active network of clinicians leading AI innovation across the NHS. Fellows undertake this fellowship at 2 days a week for 12 months with salary cover, alongside their work or training. They are matched to existing clinical AI projects in the NHS to learn the safe deployment and evaluation of AI in clinical workflows under a clinical AI supervisor as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Fellows are supported to present and publish their work, which may include clinical trials and quality improvement projects in the deployment of AI. They gain skills and knowledge relevant to the life cycle of healthcare AI from a programme of teaching aligned with the clinical AI curriculum, including bespoke live masterclass workshops in centres of AI excellence across the NHS. Our fellows and alumni form an active and enduring expert network of clinical AI leaders.

Apply as an NHS applicant and Obtain Approval in Principle from a responsible person with decision-making power over training/employment pattern. Applications will not be shortlisted for interview without this.

    Sponsor funding confirmation deadline (sponsor-funded directly allocated posts only)
  • 13 Jan 2026: Shortlisting outcomes and remote interviews offered
  • 20-27 Jan 2026: Remote interviews (specific dates listed below in ‘Eligibility’)
  • Feb 2026: Outcomes of interviews and matching of fellows to AI projects
  • Aug 2026: Fellowship Cohort 5 begins
