HISES Care Home SBRI Phase 1 starts!

The Care Home Data Platform Innovation Foundation SBRI Challenge is being led by Dr Susan Shenkin from the Department of Geriatric Medicine, University of Edinburgh and NHS Lothian in collaboration with Lucy Johnston, a Research Fellow at Edinburgh Napier University.

We are delighted to announce that the five shortlisted companies Effini Ltd, Voscuris Ltd, Objectivity Ltd, Nquiringminds Ltd and freshEHR Clinical Informatics Ltd, started Phase 1 on 19th April 2021. In Phase 1 we are looking for the challenge solvers to assess if currently collected data can provide a holistic digital picture of a resident’s health, wellbeing, and care needs.

People and Practice: Celebrating Care Home skills

On Wednesday 19th May from 10am – 3pm, Edinburgh Napier University is hosting a one-day virtual conference celebrating all the people working throughout Scotland in the care home sector. This has been an unprecedented year for the sector.

This year’s conference offers care home staff and colleagues the time and space to celebrate each other, hear and learn from each other’s experiences and take time to reflect. With panel sessions, keynote and breakout sessions from experts, industry leaders and care home representatives, this online event aims to empower, uplift and celebrate the work that is being conducted daily in the care home sector.

MSc Funding 2021-22

The DHI have announced 16.5 FTE Master’s scholarships in Digital Health and Care are available for application for 2021-22 intake. The deadline for the first 14.5 FTE places for September intake is 30 June 2021.

Advanced Communications and Connected Healthcare Roundtable

The emergence of 5G gives us the opportunity to rethink, redesign and alleviate some of the strains on our health & social care services. This round table online event is taking place on Thursday 27th  May, 12pm – 1:30pm. Co-hosted by the Scotland 5g Centre and the Digital Health and Care Innovation Centre, it will provide a number of industry insights informing a discussion between health and social care providers, public policy professionals and industry experts.

Environmental Sustainability of Medical Devices: Challenges & Opportunities

The Medical Device Manufacturing Centre (MDMC) are pleased to announce this online event taking place on Thursday, 10th June, 3pm – 4:30pm. Medical waste has hit the headlines during the Covid-19 pandemic, with billions of tonnes of single-use PPE and diagnostic paraphernalia going to incineration or landfill. A heavy user of single-use products, the healthcare industry, has relatively recently awakened to the environmental impact of this.

The vast potential for Scotland’s Care Home sector that lies in data-led innovation

The ongoing pandemic has illustrated just how much of an invaluable asset data is in the care home sector. We plan to build on our first Care Home Innovation Challenge to deliver a pipeline of scalable and reliable data-driven innovation solutions that will collectively lead to better quality of life outcomes for care home residents across Scotland. For the residents and staff of Scotland’s care homes to benefit from data-driven innovation, innovators and researchers need to work closely with them, clinical experts in health and social care, and policy makers, to co-create seamless, unobtrusive data-led innovations that ensure everyone can benefit and receive the highest quality person-centred care when they need it.
