SHIL Phase 2 COVID-19 Innovation Fund

A new phase 2 innovation fund from Scottish Health Innovations Ltd (SHIL) launched on Wednesday 7 October. Designed to support NHS Scotland adapt, develop and strengthen in response to COVID-19, it will harness the knowledge and expertise of health and social care professionals across Scotland, encouraging them to come forward with innovative ideas. The package of support for NHS Scotland staff will include up to £25k of initial seed funding, combined with regulatory support, project management and the extensive innovation expertise of SHIL.

Applied Research on Longer-Term Effects of COVID-19 Infection

CSO have launched a call for applied research proposals designed to improve understanding of the longer term effects of COVID-19 infection on physical and mental health and wellbeing in Scotland, and research with the aim of developing effective clinical interventions to support recovery and rehabilitation from COVID-19 infection. Studies would include: the epidemiology of, or clinical evaluation of diagnostic, prognostic and precision medicine approaches to long COVID-19 development and evaluation of treatment and rehabilitation strategies; research to increase the knowledge base around lived experience of long term COVID-19 infection sequalae.

DataLoch heralds new data-driven era in healthcare innovation

 

A new data repository has been created to bring together health and social care data for the first time, driving forward data-driven approaches to improving care. DataLoch will enable researchers to engage with private, public and third sector health and social care organisations, using data from across the Edinburgh & South East Scotland region to power research and innovation. The project takes its name from the industry standard ‘data-lake’, a system or repository of data stored in its natural form. DataLoch has been funded as part of the University’s Data-Driven Innovation initiative – part of the Edinburgh and South East Scotland City Region Deal.

  Tailored Talks

Tailored Talks is a presentation platform that allows health and social care professionals and people working in third sector organisations to provide information which is tailored to each individual patient’s needs.The application of the Tailored Talks platform is a critical enabler of the Hospital to Home pathway developed in partnership between NHS Lothian and Chest, Heart & Stroke Scotland. It was created to facilitate effective discharge, to support people and their families make the transition from ICU to home following a COVID diagnosis and to ensure that there is ongoing support as people learn to live with the longer-term impact of the virus.

European Online Week of Active & Healthy Ageing

The European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing invite you to the European Week of Active & Healthy Ageing (EWAHA) on 2-6 November, 2020. This initiative will look into the future ten years until 2030. This decade is a real opportunity to focus on healthy ageing and demographic change. The World Health Organization Decade of Healthy Ageing main priorities include intergenerational solidarity, and aligning health and care systems with the needs of ageing populations. This exciting initiative will also cover implications for innovative capacity-building in systems and services for healthy ageing.

World Mental Health Week

World Mental Health Day is observed on 10 October every year, with the overall objective of raising awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilizing efforts in support of mental health. Given past experience of emergencies, it is expected that the need for mental health and psychosocial support will substantially increase in the coming months and years. Investment in mental health programmes at the national and international levels, which have already suffered from years of chronic underfunding, is now more important than it has ever been. This is why the goal of this year’s World Mental Health Day campaign is increased investment in mental health.
